Summary

This fabulous property is right in the Great Barrier Reef to the very north of Cairns and not too far from the very pointy end of Australia. This home on Hicks Island is a big home amongst 6 other properties with 4 other homes built on the island with an airport runway, that has direct access to all northern airports including Weipa and Cairns.

The property has a main exotic tropical home with master bedroom connected via walkway to main home. If you have seen the Great Barrier Reef in the media and on TV with all the blue water and coral surrounding an Island, then this would be a fair representation of this home and island precinct.

The shed can accommodate a 25ft boat, as well as having a 42 V solar system and backup 25 kva generator. Ideal getaway home or use it when you like and rent it out for the rest of the year. There are great friendly neighbours and an abundance of diving and fishing.

This home is the ultimate north Queensland getaway and across the way from the world famous Haggiston Island Resort. Plenty of water and dams and a brand new 30 year renewable lease.

Hicks Island’s ‘Reefview House’

must be sold

 Further information

We have been instructed by the island owners to sell ‘Reefview House’ on Hicks Island.

Hicks Island is one of the Great Barrier Reefs natural and well-known fishing locations within Australia’s most northern point.

The home on Hicks Island has been freshly painted with panoramic windows and concertina doors perfectly framing views to Haggerstone Island Resort, Forbes Island and Moody Reef.  'Reefview House’ has three bedrooms, the master bedroom connected via a breezeway to the main residence complete with air conditioning and boasting a private verandah. This makes the bedroom romantic and private and a magical spot to watch the sunrise.

Hicks Island is located approximately 3 kilometres southeast of Cape Grenville in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and 600km north of Cairns. The Island is approximately 160 hectares (340 acres). Hicks Island was once the location for a failed copra industry, the old coconut plantation is still present and provides an interesting link to the past as well as product for those lazy sunset cocktails!!

Hicks Island is a leasehold with the Queensland Government and has just had its lease renewed for a further 30 years only this month.

Hicks Island is surrounded by reef and offers unrivalled reef and pelagic fishing, including billfish, Red Emperor and Coral trout.  The surrounding reefs and islands also offer spectacular snorkelling, diving and spearfishing...did someone say lobster for dinner? And don't forget pristine tropical estuaries and rivers with untouched barramundi fishing a short boat ride to the adjacent mainland. Casting a line directly below the house is a must with all reef species on offer, or simply browse the shore for succulent oysters whilst keeping an eye out for mud crabs which abound.

Hicks Island also has its own 800 metre airstrip that offers convenience and quick access to and from both Cairns and Weipa. The runway will accept most light twin aircraft. Several charter companies service flights to Hicks Island on a regular basis.

Our feature home on Hicks Island is affectionately and appropriately named ‘Reefview’ due to the breathtaking 270-degree views from the residence.  It reluctantly offered for sale due to the change in personal circumstances by the owners. This much-loved property has been an integral part of the family life for many years now. ‘Reefview House’ offers your own personal escape from the rest of Australia and is so remote - but also so convenient- that it is one of the greatest positions within any of the island groups in the north of Queensland and given its close proximity to the mainland and the well-known Haggerston Island, this gives you some form of relative contact with the outside world if you wish. Hicks Island is serviced by Seaswift freight which offers regular servicing from Cairns, capable of supplying all freight (groceries including chiller and freezer) as well as fuel, gas hardware/machinery supplies.

The home is well appointed with all the modern features, including flushing toilet with ample water supply and electricity. The owners have recently spent over $40,000 installing a new 42V Solar power system with diesel generator backup.  The upgraded power system will allow the new owners to enjoy their computers and TV gaming, fans, microwaves, air conditioning, washing machines, power tools and all the modern-day appliances we have come to rely on.

The house has 6 large rainwater tanks meaning that fresh water will never be an issue.   that can be There are also three freshwater dams on the Island that can be accessed via connected plumbing to the house in case of emergencies. The home boasts a beautiful tropical orchid garden, there is also an orchard on the island that is for use by all shareholders, here you can take your pick from bananas, mangoes, limes and lemons.

This island property is a 'walk in walk out' sale and includes: two boats; -‘Reef Rat’: an 8 metre custom built plate alloy boat powered by a 330hp diesel Doen Jet.  The jet propulsion means no more broken props on the reef allowing you to take the family over shallow reefs in comfort and safety.  The other boat is a fibreglass 5.5metre Wahoo with 60hp Evinrude outboard. Both of these vessel have had little work and are fully equipped with all the best Navionics and are operating as new. There is also in the sale two ATV vehicles: a Polaris Ranger 500 and a Kawasaki, which are in excellent condition and are perfect for island life.

With all furniture, tools, everyday living utensils there is absolutely nothing left to purchase, simply take your hat and sunglasses and settle into Island Life.

Hicks Island is comprised of shareholdings and 'Reefview House' is one of four homes on the island.  Each shareholder is independent from the other with cooperative arrangements and a shared ownership of the Island's small barge, backhoe and front-end loader......great for launching "Reef Rat"

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a waterfront home on 3642sq/m on an island on the Great Barrier Reef for $1.075M---well below replacement cost. This home is not a fishing beach shack but an architecturally designed pole home perfect to enjoy the untouched beauty and adventure of Far North Qld and the Great Barrier Reef.

Please call me for a full content itinerary of ‘Reefview House’ and to arrange an inspection or to make an offer.
