Summary

Sweers Island Resort is located in Australia's southern Gulf of Carpentaria and is designated for tourist purposes. The Island itself is around 1,100ha and owned by the traditional owners the Kaiadilt People. The 30 hectares is leased from the State Government (QLD) in the name of the resort operators, Lyn and Tex Battle, who were granted the lease some 35 years ago. There is a great relationship with the traditional owners and the leaseholders. Lyn and Tex are the only residence on the island at this time and make it part of their personal responsibility to adopt land care and preservation of the island outside their lease for the Kaiadilt People.

The island is surrounded by acres of rock reef with coral, much of which has never seen a fishing line. The island is approximately 8 kms long by 2km wide and the 30 hectare perpetual lease (which means forever) and is on the Southern end of the island. As the island total area is approximately 1100ha, there are many significant areas and sites on the island and are all accessible.

Sweers Island has miles of golden beaches and blue waters with plentiful marine and bird life on and around the island. This island is called and referred to as the ultimate fisherman's paradise.

To get there, Sweers Island has an 1200 metre runway that can take most single and twin aircraft on a gravel/clay surface. There is also a second smaller all weather runway for light aircraft.

The bathrooms are individual-style units with shower, toilet and washbasin, and are fully tiled and connected to both solar and gas for your hot water. The accomodation ranges from 2-bed cabins up to 6-bed family rooms.

Additionally there is open-air dining and bar facilities where everyone meets after a fishing day to pass stories of truth and not so truth.

As well as having Telstra mobile phone reception (limited at times), there is NBN broadband satellite internet to make running your business east from this remote office paradise.

Sweers Island has a fantastic climate that could best be described as 'Dry Tropics'. The average daily maximum temperature ranges from 24 degrees Celsius in June to 35 degrees Celsius in December.
