Summary

Zuna Island lies in the tropical waters of the Torres Strait archipelago, at the northernmost point of Australia. Just a short flight from the international tourist destination of Cairns, and with unfettered access to world class recreational boating and fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, Zuna Island is one of Australia’s few remaining hidden sanctuaries. But now a unique opportunity to own a piece of this paradise has arisen.

The property is a rare investment opportunity, with the buyer receiving both freehold land in Australia and a registered Australian business.

Zuna Island Escape combines all the comforts of mainland living with the delights of island life.

The main residence is the cottage. Less than 100 metres from the shoreline, the cottage is nestled against the untouched bushland surrounding the property. The air-conditioned cottage contains a modern kitchen and bathroom, as well as a spacious lounge opening onto a deck with views to the ocean; perfect for entertaining or just enjoying the tranquil atmosphere. The master bedroom on the mezzanine level also enjoys views across the property to the waters edge.

The neighbouring bungalow includes the guest quarters and is conveniently located less than 40m from the cottage , allowing for the complete privacy of the cottage. The bungalow provides accommodation for up to 8 people. Two bedrooms, each with mezzanine, open onto a spacious patio with outdoor cooking facilities.

Zuna Island Escape is totally off the grid and has been designed to be completely self-sufficient. All the electricity needed for the property is provided by a 7kW solar photovoltaic system with a 12kW diesel generator as a reserve source of power if required. An 80,000L rainwater tank collects the monsoonal rains, storing the pristine water for drinking, cooking and washing. A zero maintenance biodegradable sewage treatment systems also services the property.

Zuna Island lies to the east of Prince of Wales Island and the south of Horn Island. Zuna Island is accessible from Thursday Island via the Endeavour Channel.

Flights depart to nearby Horn Island daily from Cairns airport. The flight is 1 hour and 40 minutes. Regular ferry transfers are available from Horn to Thursday Island and then Zuna Island is accessible by air and water from Thursday Island (20 minutes by boat and 8 minutes via helicopter from Thursday Island).

The average temperature is 27°, varying between 24.5° in winter and 30.2° in summer. The annual rainfall is 1795mm, though the majority of this falls in the tropical monsoon between November and April.
