Summary
Camp Island, also known as Silver Shoals Lodge, is a privately-owned leisure destination situated some 3 kilometres offshore in Abbot Bay, North Queensland, adjacent to the south of the picturesque Cape Upstart National Park at the northern end of the Whitsunday Islands. Surrounded by beautiful fringing reefs alive with marine life, Camp Island consists of coral shores, a sandy beach and 15-hectares of untouched national park with wild fauna and flora and a diverse bird life. The Silver Shoals Lodge property comprises 2.48 hectares (6.1 acres) on this idyllic location. Reliable mobile phone coverage and internet facilities are available on the island.
Award winner Architectural Society House of the Year, the buildings are constructed out of brushed box hardwood and feature silky oak door frames and polished timber floors. The lodge boasts four private cabins, a large living/dining area, separate kitchen and extensive covered timber verandas where one can dine, relax and take in the spell binding moods Abbot Bay has to offer.
Each spacious cabin, nestled just metres from the ocean, has an ensuite bathroom, large French doors with screens, ample built in storage, ceiling fans and is connected by undercover walkways to a main dining/living/kitchen area.
The impressive lounge, television and dining area features polished timber floor boards and French doors leading onto wide all round covered verandas revealing extraordinary views of the ocean and surrounding landscape. An outstanding timber kitchen with gas cooking appliances and an innovative indoor/outdoor concept usage presents functional yet casual cooking and serving amenities.
The managers/caretakers residence is a short walk from the main complex ensuring guest/owners privacy, comprising 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
A large well-planned machinery shed houses the solar power system, storage batteries and backup generator. A computer system monitors battery levels and auto starts the diesel generator if required. The laundry, landscape equipment and ample tool storage occupies the balance of the shed and is also big enough to house a private helicopter.
Rainwater is collected from the roof and stored in 200,000 litre underground tanks. A separate pump shed distributes rainwater and grey water throughout the complex.
A full size tennis court, swimming pool and poolside barbecue hut is located a short walk through lit pathways from the main buildings.
Primary boat access is via the Elliot River just off the Bruce Highway with sea transfers from Bowen. Proserpine and Townsville Airports are approximately 1.5 hours by car away. Private planes can land in Bowen a short drive away or fly direct by helicopter from Hamilton Island, Whitsunday or Proserpine airport, or Townsville.
